At such a low price point you'd expect a few things to be missing from the Gateway M305X but you'd be wrong. What you get is a 2.2GHz Celeron notebook with a nice 15.0-inch screen, 256MB of memory, 40GB hard disk, and DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive. Basically everything you need with no extras.
The 1,024 by 768-pixel LCD offers only 18-bit rather than 24- or 32-bit color, so those who need color graphics performance will have to look elsewhere. You don't get a floppy drive but you do get one PC Card slot (for either a Type II or thicker Type III card), two USB 2.0 ports, a microphone and headphone jack, plus a 56Kbps modem, 10/100Mbps Ethernet, parallel, and VGA ports at the rear.
